Appetizing Afterschool

Join Susan and Betsy in this workshop that will give you lots of tools and ideas on how garden planting, harvesting and planning and cooking classes can be used during afterschool hours to teach students about nutrition, measurement, local food, economics, diverse cultures, science, literacy, and of course cooking skills! Betsy Stacey is the Program Director for the BEAMS Afterschool Program at the Brattleboro Area Middle School. The middle school offers classes such as International Cooking Club, Chinese Cooking Club, Kitchen Chemistry, Baking for Good and “Food for Thought” summer camp. Betsy holds degrees in Art, Biology and Museum Studies. She is also an instructor for the Community College of Vermont.  Susan K. Sweeney is The Deerfield Valley Elementary School WINGS After School Program Garden Coordinator. She holds a BS from UVM in nutrition and consumer economics.  She is a UVM Extension master gardener.
